Railtrack, which owns Britain's rail infrastructure, has awarded separate contracts worth a total of $121 million to Wabtec Rail Ltd., the U.K. division of Wabtec Corp. of Wilmerding, Pa., and Union Switch & Signal of Pittsburgh, an affiliate of the Ansaldo Signal Group.
A $21 million order went to Wabtec Rail Ltd. to design and build 190 high-tech, high-speed ballast cars for delivery this year. One operator using a hand-held radio remote control system will control the ballast discharge doors.
