Article: CLASS 4A GIRLS' BASKETBALL; No. 1 Elk River leaves Armstrong empty.(SPORTS)

From Staff Reports

Armstrong's curse continues. So does Elk River's quest for its first state championship.

The top-ranked Elks answered every Armstrong challenge with a clutch shot of their own Tuesday night and advanced to the semifinals of the Class 4A girls state basketball tournament with a 65-56 victory before 2,000 at Wayzata High School.

Elk River senior Kayla Christensen put the finishing touches on an entertaining and intense game with six free throws in the final minute.

"That was a wild game," Elk River coach Larry Krieg said. "There was so much intensity. We were very fortunate to come out on top. I think all the fans got a real treat tonight."
