Napster Inc.'s potential death struggle starts today, when the Internet music swapping site must begin blocking access to copyrighted songs under a court order issued last week.
But even before it can screen out the 135,000 song titles that major record labels have already asked to be blocked, Napster users are coming up with ways to circumvent the system.
In forums on Napster's Web site, some have suggested that users spell song names backward to get around the screening system. Others are offering to set up computer servers in Canada and other countries that could be used to access the taboo songs and avoid U.S. copyright laws.
