A local and a Kuwaiti firm have emerged as frontrunners following the opening of the commercial bids for the contract to build a 100-kilometre highway from the Mediterranean port city of Latakia to Ariha, which lies about halfway between the coast and Aleppo (MEED 15:9:00).
Industry sources say prices from eight companies have been opened, with the local Mount Kassioun Company the low bidder at $171.7 million. In second place is Kuwait's Mohamed Abdulmohsin Kharafi & Sons at $206.5 million. Project sources say the technical analysis will account for 40 per cent of the points awarded in the final evaluation.
