Government and private environmental experts estimate that Mexico will have to spend US$30 billion to US$60 billion for wells, treatment plants, and other infrastructure projects during the next 10 years to ensure water supplies meet the needs of the population.

The government expects to provide water to 7.8 million Mexicans this year, but another 11.8 million will still lack adequate access to a reliable supply of water.
