That John Blake Jr. has turned himself into an expert on the history of the violin in black culture should come as no surprise.
When you've worked with McCoy Tyner, Steve Turre, the Turtle Island String Quartet and Duke Ellington's orchestra, and been asked as many questions about the instrument as he has through the years, curiosity tends to get the better of you.
"I find it fascinating to see the connections across cultures," the veteran violinist said from his home in Philadelphia.
