CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL ANNOUNCES 1988 TRAFFIC ACCIDENT STATISTICS

SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 13 /PRNewswire/ -- The California Highway Patrol today announced the final traffic accident statistics for calendar year 1988.

Fatalities: 5,381, down 119 (2.2 percent) from last year.

Estimated mileage death rate (deaths per 100 million miles of travel): 2.3, the lowest rate in the state's history, compared to 2.4 for 1987, 1986 and 1985.
