The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) yesterday threatened to stage a nationwide campaign urging people to refuse to pay health insurance premiums if the government raises them.
The threat came after the government indicated it might increase the premiums in a desperate bid to avoid an imminent financial crisis of the national health insurance system.
The government is reportedly studying ways to increase the premiums by about 20 percent in July to cope with an estimated health insurance deficit of 3.97 trillion won this year.
