BRITAIN'S biggest names spent a record pounds 96 a second trying to make us buy their products last year.
The top 100 firms broke through the pounds 3billion barrier for the first time with ET persuading more people to talk on the phone and the "Wassup" boys encouraging us to drink Bud beer.
Yet some of the biggest companies actually slashed their advertising budgets, particularly car firms forced to cut their showroom prices as drivers went abroad to buy new models.
