In October 1962, the world as we know it nearly came to an end. Had not 'the other fellow just blinked' we might now be living in the fall-out of a nuclear war between America and the Soviet Union.
It's easy today to say it would never have happened. That common sense would never have allowed mutually assured destruction. It didn't. The scary thing is how close it came.
As the Cuban Missile Crisis was playing out on the world stage, down in Australia a nervous 16-year-old Roger Donaldson was keeping a diary of events.
