THIS week is the centenary of the birth of Pretty Polly, the greatest filly or mare
of all time.
This public idol won 22 of her 24 races over four seasons, including the fillies' Triple Crown in 1904 and two Coronation Cups. For sheer class and consistency over a long period, she remains the paragon of her sex.
