The idea of recreating artist Claude Monet's famous garden at Giverny, France, for the annual Dayton's-Bachman's flower show had come up several times in previous years - and was discarded as impossible.
"The reason you go to Giverny is to see the interior of Monet's house, his paintings, the wisteria, the water lilies and the nasturtiums," said theater impresario Jack Barkla, who has designed sets for the flower show. "We couldn't do the interiors, wouldn't have any paintings, and you couldn't get wisteria, water lilies or nasturtiums to bloom in Minnesota in winter."
