Not all plants are started from seeds. Vegetative propagation, more often simply called vegetive propagation, is commonly used in many types of crops, especially those where either the parent plant does not produce seeds, such as seedless grapes, or where the exact characteristics of the parent plant need to be maintained, which is most common in woody plants such as fruit trees. It is also common to use vegetive propagation to reduce the time required to produce a mature plant, such as horseradish.
