Maybe it stings a little less now, that patch of Glen Mason's pride that Ohio State University (OSU) nipped when it passed him over for its top coaching job.

By most accounts, the Gophers head football coach wanted that post in the most pronounced way. Once an assistant coach at OSU, Mason had spent 15 years at other gridiron programs preparing himself, apparently, to return to Columbus. In January, all appeared to be going well. The vacancy sign was glowing for the OSU head coach spot, Mason was on the short list, and he got a second interview.

Then OSU picked somebody else.

Since that very public let-down, Mason hasn't said much about it, at least to reporters. ...
