AT&T INAUGURATES THE FIRST TRANSPACIFIC FIBER-OPTIC CABLE

NEW YORK, April 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The first undersea fiber-optic communications link between United States, Japan and Guam was put into service today by AT&T and Kokusai Denshin Denwa (KDD) of Japan.

The first call on the cable -- a video call -- was placed by Donald J. Solodar, senior vice president--Capital markets of the New York Stock Exchange, to Shiro Uramatsu, executive vice president of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Speaking from the board room of the New York Stock Exchange, Solodar said, "The world continues to become smaller and all of us are beneficiaries."
