Cystic fibrosis (CF) patients infected with Burholderia cepacia can have positive long-term outcomes after lung transplantation, according to a retrospective review of CF patients treated through the Toronto (Canada) lung transplant program.
Fifty-three CF patients received lung transplants during the 8-year study period. Of these, 28 were B. cepacia-positive prior to transplant and 25 remained positive posttransplant.
