ACP Parliamentarians of the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly are calling for consultations under Article 12 of the Cotonou Agreement if the EU does not lift its sanctions against Haiti. The proposal, made by the Secretary-General of the ACP Group, Jean-Robert Goulongana was unanimously approved by the ACP politicians. On 31 December 2000, the EU announced the closure of ACP-EU consultations on the situation in Haiti and decided to freeze EU aid worth Euro 44 million destined for food security and structural adjustment.The ACP Parliamentarians also agreed that Cuba should maintain its observer status in the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly.
