I KNOW! I know! Queensland has its cyclones and the Top End its floods, but don't for one moment imagine that Victoria is wholly spared the visitations of affliction. Last March, like Satan smiting Job with boils, this state was invaded by grotesques, embodied in the persons of Bob Hawke and Paul Keating. Grave echoes of earlier statesmanship reawoke in Victorian ears: "Bondy ..."; "no child will live in poverty ..."; "banana republic ..."; "world's greatest treasurer ..."; "the Placido Domingo of ..."; "L-A-W--law...". One could go on but--relax--one won't.
