TO MANY OUTDOORSMEN, the phrase "wild edible plants" calls up rather grim images--of a lost and starving hunter, say, gnawing on inner tree bark and fibrous roots in a desperate attempt to stay alive.
While it's true that a knowledge of edible flora can prove valuable in certain survival situations, plant lore has a more daily, pleasurable side as well. A recent camp meal of fried brook trout, for example, was much improved thanks to the addition of chopped wild onions and sliced morel mushrooms.
