Onboard ESD suppression gains popularity To defend delicate ICs against ESD voltage transients, designers are increasingly mounting transient-voltage-suppression (TVS) protection zener diodes on their boards, reports Dave Hutchins, senior technical consultant for Tempe, AZ-based General Semiconductor Industries (GSI).
Both GSI and Motorola Semiconductor Products (Phoenix, AZ)--the two leaders in the market--report strong sales of their board-mounted TVS products, especially in the last year. Motorola supplies Mosorb TVS zener diodes; GSI makes the TransZorb TVS devices.
