Rocky Mountain News hockey writer Jim Benton's look at the Eastern Conference at the All-Star break, with teams ranked according to where they would be if the season ended today:
1. OTTAWA SENATORS
Record - 29-14-7-1, 66 points, first in Northeast Division.
First four months - Goalie Patrick Lalime put up All-Star numbers, and the Senators played like the best team in the Eastern Conference. Ottawa, with Marian Hossa and Alexei Yashin leading the way, had good offensive numbers without forgetting how to play in its end.
