CONCH REPUBLIC "INSURRECTION" CELEBRATION UNDERWAY
KEY WEST, Florida Keys, April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Commemorating a modern-day uprising with high-spirited revelry, Key West's annual "secession" celebration, Conch Republic Days, kicked into high gear Thursday for a four-day party in the nation's Southermost City.
Visitors can mark the seventh birthday of the Conch Republic as "conchs" -- natives of the Florida Keys -- hoist the flag of fun to celebrate the area's 1982 "insurrection" when the U.S. Border Patrol erected traffic-delaying roadblocks ostensibly to search for illegal aliens and drugs.
