SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. _ Jim Baron has emerged as the likely choice to become the new men's basketball coach at the University of Rhode Island.
Baron, the coach at fellow Atlantic 10 school St. Bonaventure, spent Friday in Rhode Island interviewing for the job. Sources told the Journal that Ron Petro, the URI athletic director, was impressed, to the point where he had Baron meet with other school officials, including Robert L. Carothers, the university president.
Barring any last-minute complications, it is expected that Baron will be the choice, with an announcement possible as early as Monday.
