National Cancer Research Institute, prostate cancer research centres of excellence and regional research networks to start in April The Secretary for State for Health, Alan Milburn, has announced that a new National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) will be launched on 1st April. The NCRI will be the first national research institute in the UK to focus on a specific disease and will oversee all aspects of cancer research including clinical trials of new treatments and genetics.
