Article: The dark side of the New Economy.(Brief Article)

We keep hearing over and over again that there is a "new economy" somehow replacing the "old economy." The "new economy" is the NASDAQ. The "old economy" is the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

We have adopted all this almost without a whimper. News outlets throughout the country refer to "new economy" companies as if we all know what they are talking about, and we do know they are talking about firms involved in high technology somehow connected with the Internet.

There is no "new economy" plain and simple.

But we have no idea what it all means. We don't know what it means because it doesn't mean anything at all.
