Understanding how preservice teachers acquire the values and beliefs that influence their decisions and selection of physical education curricula is important in the development of effective teacher education. Curriculum specialists have hypothesized that educational value orientations are the foundation from which particular methods of instruction, goals for student learning and the organization of the curriculum are developed (Eisner & Vallance, 1974).
