Pickup Seen For Sweater Machinery Biz NEW YORK -- A positive sales turnaround in sweater knitting machines is becoming apparent as sweater producers prepare to enter the market again with a new vigor.

One machinery company executive said that sales to the women's wear sweater market nose-dived immediately after the Oct. 19, 1987, stock market crash, while the men's sweater-producing industry remained active. But the Wall Street scene improved shortly after that mid-October stock market burst, while the women's sweater market is just getting around to it now, leaving 1988 as a year that could have been a lot better for the knit machinery crowd.
