LOUISVILLE -- Louisville surgeons say they're ready to install a fully implantable artificial heart, but some heart patients aren't eager to become the first recipients.
The 2-pound, softball-sized device was developed by ABIOMED of Danvers, Mass. Jewish Hospital in Louisville was among five medical centers chosen for human tests of the pump.
But with the government so far approving only five trial procedures involving the device, patients are approaching it cautiously.
