He is intelligent, charming, and very much a gentleman.

There is, as well, a certain reticence about him, that which you find in individuals who have taken the trouble to think out what they want before going after it. These were my first impressions of Hollis Murray in 1973, when I joined the FAO Forestry Department.

I came to know him as a colleage only slightly, because soon he was promoted and transferred to a more important post as the FAO and United Nations Development Programme representative in jamaica. Everyone saw that move as a significant step up and Hollis as the right man for the job.
