The population of the already crowded Dane County jail facilities swelled to a record 1,151 Tuesday, county officials said.
The total includes 1,088 inmates housed in the three Dane County jail facilities - the City-County Building, the Public Safety Building and the Ferris Huber Center - and 63 on electronic monitoring.
The jails are designed to hold no more than 942 inmates, and correctional experts have recommended that the population not exceed 80 percent of that capacity in order to separate inmates by such characteristics as gender and the nature of ...
