Many studies, preoccupied with socio-political aspects of Lebanon in the twentieth century, dedicate a few paragraphs to the Phoenician myth of origin in Lebanon. Yet our knowledge about the origins, the character and the content of this myth are fairly limited. This article attempts to provide some answers to the phenomenon of `Phoenicianism' in Lebanon from its commencement to the formation of Greater Lebanon in 1920.
