So there I sat among the 49er Faithful in Kezar Stadium, doing what 49er Faithful did in that dark pre-Montana, pre-Candlestick age_watching John Brodie throw an interception. And listening to the kinds of things the 49er Faithful said back then in the aftermath of another crushing turnover:
"The red shirts, Brodie! The RED shirts!"
So there I was a few summers later, watching the 49ers scrimmage at St. Mary's College, looking on as backup quarterback George Mira threw a pass that hit a defender right in the paws. And listening as a fan's voice split the air like a foghorn:
"Looks like Brodie out there!"
