PENTACHLOROPHENOL (PCP), a fungicide, is used worldwide for wood protection. In Germany, the country of residence of the patients examined in the current study, the use of PCP-containing pesticides was prohibited by law in 1989. It is suspected that PCP induces (a) neurotoxicity; (b) deoxyribonucleic acid damage, which may lead to various forms of cancer, anencephaly or spina bifida, and congenital anomalies of genital organs in offspring of exposed fathers; and (c) immune dysfunction, such as decreased antibody production and decreased T-lymphocyte responses and interleukin (IL) -- 2 production.[1-22] Abnormal immunological responses were found in in-vitro experiments ...
