More than 400 dignitaries, entertainers, and scholars in academe helped Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison celebrate her 70th birthday with a gala tribute in New York.
Hosted by the Toni Morrison Society and Alfred A. Knopf, the event took place at the New York Public Library. Former U.S. Poet Laureate Rita Dove and novelist Walter Mosley served as dinner hosts for the unforgettable evening.
Opera great Jessye Norman and noted Harvard professor-humanitarian Dr. Henry Louis Gates, Jr., co-hosts for the event, gave the opening remarks during the reception in the library's Astor Hall. Ossie Davis and Ruby Dee led the audience in a birthday toast at ...
