Domestic partner health benefits continue to grow in popularity among U.S. employers. At last count on the Human Rights Campaign Web site, 3,647 U.S. employers - including 116 of the Fortune 500 - offered the benefits to the unmarried partners of employees. Other estimates place that number higher.
"There are over 6,000 now," according to Liz Winfield, whose consulting company, Common Ground, has helped firms such as American Express, Motorola and Shell Oil implement domestic partner benefits and sexual-orientation training programs.
