CIVIL AVIATION ORGANIZATION MEETING ON AIRPORT SECURITY

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- The United States and the United Kingdom today jointly announced that they will request a special session of the council of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to improve international aviation security procedures in the aftermath of the crash of Pan American World Airways Flight 103 on Dec 21, 1988. The aircraft was destroyed by an explosive device, probably made of plastique, which resulted in the deaths of 259 passengers and crew, and 11 British citizens on the ground.
