Anxiety disorders are often unrecognized and untreated by primary care physicians, Risa Weisberg, Ph.D., reported in a poster session at the annual meeting of the Association for Advancement of Behavior Therapy.

Preliminary results of a longitudinal study of 500 primary care patients with anxiety disorders showed that 50% of symptomatic patients were neither treated by their primary care physician, nor referred to a mental health professional for further assessment or treatment.
