New drug works to control underlying diabetes defect
Basel, Switzerland -
Novartis announced today that the European Commission has granted marketing approval for Starlix(r) (nateglinide), a D-phenylalanine (amino acid) derivative, the first in a new class of drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Starlix has been approved in combination therapy with metformin in type 2 diabetes patients inadequately controlled despite a maximally tolerated dose of metformin alone.
