Born in 1967, I find it difficult to fully understand the strong feelings evoked by the Vietnam War and its continuing aftermath among older generations of Americans.
The 1996 presidential campaign is an example of this. Bob Dole's appeal to voters' emotions about the president's war record has little basis in fact. For his part, President Clinton has failed to address the issue in a way that would help our country move forward from the ceaseless intergenerational battle that continues to divert attention from more important matters.
