The Palestinian Authority condemned the assassination of an Islamic Jihad militant leader in the West Bank town of Jenin on Thursday by what is widely believed to have been the work of Israeli security intelligence forces.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat angrily denounced the killing of 30-year-old Iyad Hardan, who was blown up by remote control while using a public phone in the town.

"The murder of Hardan is a clear indicates ... that the Israeli government

intends to continue its aggression against the Palestinian people," said Erekat.
