The Ohio General Assembly is proposing to restrict what a doctor or other health care professional can talk to a woman about in a clinic that receives state funds.
This so-called gag rule being proposed is not about abortion. It is about family planning.
A vote for this amendment to the state budget means family planning funds will be cut for an established network of service providers. The amendment would eliminate funds for at least 22 providers serving 113,608 women in 56 counties. Those clinics provide a wide variety of services including contraceptives, cancer screenings, prenatal care and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases.
