In the winter of 1077, Emperor Henry IV of Germany, out of favor with church authorities, dressed in rags and stood for three days in the snow outside Canossa Castle in Italy begging the pardon of Pope Gregory VII. That's what we call being sorry. But in the matter of Richard Jewell, the FBI is a long way from Canossa.
