With one more weekend of regular-season college football remaining, the bowl picture is unfinished, but the focus clearly has settled on two games - both with national championship implications.
No. 1 is the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, because it has the No. 1-ranked team in both major polls, Florida State. No. 2 is the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., which has No. 2-ranked Arizona State.
So much for the national title game envisioned by the bowl alliance.
''Like it or not, it's the system.'' said ESPN football analyst Lee Corso. ''Until they get the Rose Bowl in there, it's the best they can do.''
