The Holy Cross boys' basketball team that knocked off Holmes, the top-rated team in the 9th Region Tournament last March, opened the new season with another upset.
The Indians used three-point shooting and aggressive defensive play to pull off a 71-63 win over Highlands, the No. 1 team in the 9th Region preseason coaches poll, in the opening game of The Kentucky Post/Turfway Park Tipoff Classic on Monday at Scott High School.
''We love coming out and playing the top team like that,'' Holy Cross junior guard Josh Clary said. ''It gets us more fired up and ready to play.''
