Music blared. Blue lights flashed. Four workers slapped stickers on Pepsi bottles in the hands of a steady stream of customers.
The hullabaloo was about the return of the one and only Blue Light Special at Newport's Kmart.
Two-liter Pepsi bottles sold for 39 cents each during the 25-minute promotion, under the big blue cylinder in the middle of the store.
Kmart Corp. brought back the Blue Light Special this week and is counting on its revival to help boost sales and profits - and to help the discount retailer reconnect with its consumers.
