Bush Names Cheney To Head Energy Task Force

President Bush named Vice President Dick Cheney to head an energy task force seeking ways to cope with high prices and a reliance on foreign oil. Bush said the task force would deal with the short-term crisis of California's electricity shortage. The panel will also deal with the long-term goal of increasing domestic energy production. Bush said Cabinet members would participate in the task force. He pledged during his campaign to increase oil and natural gas supplies by opening parts of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling and by developing alternative sources.
