ONLY the tough will survive in today's muddy Martell Grand National and they don't come tougher than the cross-Pennine raider The Last Fling.
Six months of rain have turned track after track into a quagmire and even Aintree's little-used turf is feeling the strain after more downpours this week.
That means that the mud lovers are the horses to go for in this afternoon's slog for the Martell's brandy money and The Last Fling's route will be plotted by one of Yorkshire's toughest - Harvey Smith.
