STRAWBERRY FLOWERS are pollinated by wind and gravity, but as with many other crops, they benefit greatly when bees are present to improve the pollination, says the current issue of Organic Gardening magazine.
Bees distribute more grains of pollen onto each strawberry flower, and this causes each ``bee-blessed'' berry to grow plumper. For improved pollination, home gardeners who want to attract more beneficial bees should grow lots of flowers, especially blue and yellow ones.
