IRVING, Texas _ They all came to see Troy Aikman, the consummate Dallas Cowboy and cornerstone of three Super Bowl champions, bid farewell to the game.
The packed Stadium Club at Texas Stadium on Monday included the entire Cowboys organization, coaches and former teammates including wide receiver Michael Irvin, fullback Daryl Johnston, quarterback Jason Garrett, tight end Eric Bjornson, running back Emmitt Smith and safety Darren Woodson.
They also came to breathe a sigh of relief.
Aikman's decision to retire answered the prayers of many friends, who worried about the safety and long-term health of the likely future Hall of Fame quarterback.
