DRINKERS were last night facing the country's worst ever beer drought as Guinness workers went on strike.
Production of stout as well as Carlsberg, Budweiser, Smithwicks and Harp stopped hours before strikers placed pickets.
The main production lines at the St James's Gate brewery in Dublin where Guinness has been made since 1759 were silent, as were plants in Dundalk, Waterford and Kilkenny.
Hundreds of millions of pints, bottles and cans of the black stuff are produced every year.
